From S30 to SD400

Our 'old' CAnon S30 digital camera finally died. After 9300+ pictures and videos... It was 3+ years old, but abused heavily by myself and my daughter [multiple falls].

It started having problems with the on switch [at the back of the sliding lens cover] in recent months, but this last episode was something else. We took it apart and looked at every mechanical bit we can see, nothing specific... It was beyond our capabilities, so we 'upgraded' to Canon SD400.

Not 450, but 400. The difference between the two models doesn't really worth the extra $50. Bought from Best Buy at $299 minus $35 gift card. Had to buy a 1Gb SD card for $59 minus $20 rebate.

The new camera is one third of the pervious, it's 5Mpix instead of 3.2, and can take 3-fps unlimited 640x480 AVIs [instead of 30sec 320x240, and 15fps].

It's not time to buy a new extrenal HD and DVD burner. [The movie files are 70Mb instead of our usual 6 to 8Mb. Took 650Mb worth of pictures and movies in two days.] Ah, the overhead...
